2018 was full of excitement, changes, surprises (good and bad), and growth for ChiPets. We are so thankful to all of you for following and supporting us throughout the year.
Although we believe that there is nothing magical about January 1st of a New Year, at the same time we love commemorating occasions and reflecting on what’s good, and what can change.
So, in that spirit, we wanted to share some highlights from the year from our authors, Porky and Polly, and stats about the ChiPets website and social media.
Finally, at the end of this post, you’ll find a link to a survey about what you’d like to see more of on ChiPets. We’d be so grateful if you’d fill it out!
Here are some of our highlights:
Porky Pig was diagnosed with a luxating patella, and ultimately, had surgery for the luxation. The surgery was a success! And, while it meant most of the year was spent doing rehab after the surgery, not agility, Porky Pig was still able to recover in time to attend the 2018 USDAA Cynosport World Games where she made FINALS for the Performance Speed Jumping event! She was the smallest dog in Finals for the ENTIRE Cynosport event. You can watch her Finals run below:
Polly Pocket did not give us any big health scares (or mighty comebacks) for 2018. She spent the year healthy and happy, and celebrated her 5th birthday in true princess fashion:

Income & Expense Stats for 2018:
Would you be interested in learning how to monetize a blog? Well, when we first started this website, it was (you guessed it) for the love of Chihuahuas! But, running a website and providing proper care for our little Chis costs. That’s why we decided to monetize.
However, in the process of trying to learn how to make money from a pet blog, we found there wasn’t a lot of clear information out there. On the other hand, there is a ton of info if you want to start a mom-blog or food-blog.
Anyway, that is why we decided in our annual review to go ahead and share our income and expenses with you!
For 2018, the ChiPets’ website and social media earned a total of $148.14. This was 100% from affiliate sales. We did not do any paid sponsorships or other forms of income streams (such as advertisements or product sales) for 2018. We earn our affiliate income from (both of the following are affiliate links): Amazon and Bluehost.
Now, unfortunately, our expenses far exceeded our income. Pet food and supplies for Polly and Porky, pet insurance for Polly and Porky, website hosting, agility trial entry fees for Porky, and so on. Polly and Porky’s food, alone, cost $233.94 for the year! So, because our expenses were much higher than our income, we did not itemize them for 2018. In the future, should the income grow to exceed our expenses, we will start to itemize that for you also!
If you are interested in starting a pet blog or social media channel, be sure to let us know! We would be happy to add more to our website to help you in your journey. Please email us today.
2018 was a great year for ChiPets, thanks to all of you.
This has been the best journey and we can’t wait for all that is to come! It is so encouraging and exciting to think about how much has changed from a year ago–and how much we could be surprised by the time the next year rolls around.
Lastly, we would so appreciate if you would fill out this short ten-question survey. We hope to make ChiPets even better in 2019, and your help and input makes that possible!
